DC West Community Schools Annual Report 2017
Dear DC West Community Schools Patrons,
We present the DC West Community Schools 2017 Annual Report, which brings an opportunity to share our DC West pride. As superintendent, it is my pleasure to lead our great school system and strive to achieve our goal of “creating passionate learners” from birth to 12th grade. This report highlights school district information and accomplishments during 2017.
Our district is celebrating our 13th year as DC West Community Schools. DC West has undergone multiple facility updates in the past few years and has utilized its funds to tend to the most urgent needs all while remaining at the same $1.08 levy. The projects during the past two years have included some classroom relocations, code compliance projects, an expansion at the Valley campus to house the middle school students moving from the Waterloo building as well as the sale of the Waterloo school building.
Facility improvements continue this summer with renovation of the high school science and life skills classrooms and multiple deferred maintenance projects. The Board of Education also recently entered a partnership to finance a newly constructed preschool through fifth grade elementary school to be completed in the fall of 2019. Funds for these projects have become available through the proceeds from the sale of the Waterloo school building as well as revenue restored from a legislative change creating a transition out of the Learning Community common levy financial structure.
DC West Community Schools is a tremendous asset to our communities. We put great emphasis on community building, strategic planning, and business partnerships that strengthen learning for all. The students, families, staff and Board members of our schools are truly the heart and soul of our district. Even as we reach for new goals, we are reminded to step back and celebrate all of the success we have.
