PRIDE at DCWest Middle School

What is PRIDE?

PRIDE is held each day after lunch.

In PRIDE, each student has a teacher who serves as the student’s mentor throughout their three years at the middle school.  The mentor and student work together to provide an educational foundation for success.  The mentor assists the student in developing and monitoring long and short term goals, assists the student in maintaining academic progress through the timely completion of school work, assists the student with organizational planning, communicates with the student’s teachers and parents on academic progress, maintains the student’s records with an educational plan, and is available to serve as a resource person for the student.

PRIDE is a daily block of time in which students are grouped by grade level.  Each of the grade level PRIDE groups focuses on various strategies and skills for student and academic improvement.  PRIDE provides an open, non-threatening atmosphere for students to learn new information, share ideas, and collaborate/communicate among grade level peers.  During PRIDE, students will focus on self-awareness activities, literacy activities, life skills, goal setting, research skills, social skills, sportsmanship, test-taking strategies, leadership and team building activities.
