At DC West Middle School our PRIDE program represents a unique type of group guidance in which students meet in small groups with the same teacher or counselor, this teacher acts as their advisor over an extended period of time.
Special advisory programs provide additional guidance by building supportive, ongoing relationships between students and caring adults, in order to provide students with security, advice, affirmation, and positive role models. Teachers are able to recognize new or ongoing problems and refer students to counselors or psychologists. In fact, as the counselor I am involved at all levels of PRIDE development to:
- provide program resources and support.
- help develop the advisory curriculum, based on behavioral and developmental goals by grade.
- prepare lessons and activities for advisors
