1st Grade Teacher
First, I would like to tell you about my education and teaching experiences. I completed my Kindergarten through 12th grade education from the Waterloo Public School District. I happily continued my education and graduated from the University of Nebraska of Omaha in January of 1983, then received my Masters Degree from Wayne State College in May of 2008.
My wonderful teaching career began in a small two room country school named, Circle Lane (District 15) just outside the community of Valley, teaching grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade for four years in one room. Circle Lane then reorganized with the Valley Public School system, and I taught 3rd, 4th and 1st grade. Valley then reorganized with Waterloo in 2005 and became Douglas County West Community Schools, where I continue to teach the creative students of first grade entering the doors of knowledge at DC West Elementary School.
My husband and I both grew up in Waterloo and moved to Valley after we were married. My husband Tom works for 3M and has also been an active member of the community being a past School Board Member for 13 years, along with coaching Pee Wee football and soccer. Tom and I have 3 wonderful children! Sarah graduated from Valley Public Schools and then Kevin and Keith both graduated from DC West High School. Sarah and Kevin have completed their education at the college level where Sarah became a veterinarian and Kevin an automotive technician. Keith is presently a Senior at UNL working toward a degree in Mechanized Systems Management. My husband and I have often said, the education our children eceived from their K-12 teachers, have helped them to become extremely successful citizens in their communities, along with great careers. Along with being a mother, I am extremely proud of being a grandmother to Christian Gregory and Elise Sarah; the children of our daughter Sarah and her husband Greg. In addition to two wonderful grandchildren, our son Kevin was recently married in August of this year to Jessica. It is truly amazing seeing our family continue to grow.
Finally, I want to personally thank you for taking the time to read my Webpage, and I look forward to sharing with you many awesome activities and lessons we will be working on this year. I love teaching and coming up with new and creative ideas to assist my students. So, looking through the site map will help you to connect with learning sites, weekly spelling units, and other curricular areas to better assist and enhance you and your child's learning educational experiences. As a wonderful friend of mine has often said, when we first started teaching together years ago, "REMEMBER, TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!"
Thank you and let's have a sensational year in First Grade!!
