Greetings Falcon Families! My name is Liz Guinn and I am beginning my 4th year as Director of Bands at DC West Community Schools. Our focus in band this year is taking pride in everything that we do, whether that be in or out of the classroom. This is my 12th year of teaching in the public schools. Before becoming a Falcon, I taught 2 years at Odgen High School (IA), and 6 years at Elkhorn High School (NE), before becoming a stay-at-home mom for 9 years. During my time at home, I opened a private bassoon studio where many of my students went on to become repeating Iowa and Nebraska All-State members and future music educators and performers. One of my passions is teaching color guard. I began this journey in 1996 and have worked with several guards throughout Iowa and Nebraska including Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn South High School and most recently, Papillion LaVista South High School. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from Iowa State University in 2001 and am currently working on my Masters of Music Education at University of Nebraska at Kearney. I grew up in Maquoketa, IA and have 5 brothers, 2 whom are also band directors. My husband, Bob, and I have been married for 18 years and we reside in Omaha, NE. We have 3 wonderful children, Gracelyn (9th grade), Norah 6th grade) and Gunnar (3rd grade). In our free time we enjoy traveling, being an uber for our children, cooking, and attending concerts.
