My name is Jim Knott and I am the High School Principal at Douglas County West. I am in my 12th year and have enjoyed my time here with staff and students. I previously worked in the Centerville Community School District in south central Iowa for fourteen years as a high school social studies teacher (8 years), head football coach (12 years), and assistant principal/athletic director (6 years). Before that I taught social studies and coached various sports as an assistant at Mediapolis Community Schools (IA) and Marshalltown Community Schools (IA). I earned my bachelors degree from Iowa State University, my masters degree from Northwest Missouri State University, and my Education Specialist degree from Doane University.

My wife Courtney and I have two children. Our son Jackson (13) is in seventh grade at DC West and loves reading, basketball, and video games. Our daughter Kendall (10) is in fourth grade at DC West and is into fashion, singing, and art.  We enjoy attending Iowa State University events and doing many types of family activities.

Douglas County West High School has a great deal to offer students. We are large enough to offer a challenging and wide-ranging curriculum but small enough have manageable class sizes and a full range of extra-curricular activities and clubs.

If you have any questions about our school or want to take a tour, please contact me at (402) 359-2121 or by emailing below.  Thank you.
