Hi, I'm LeAnn Siekman, 7/8 Science Teacher at DC West Middle School. After getting my degree in Biology and Physical Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I took my first teaching job at Waterloo teaching 7-12 science. After teaching and coaching in Waterloo for 12 years, I decided to stay home with my kids Allison and Grant for 9 years. They both became students at UNL. Allison has a PhD in Biochemistry. Grant graduated from College of Business Administration Honors Academy with a degree in Actuarial Science. He is an actuary at Mutual of Omaha. Both of my children are married - no grandchildren yet, but I do have three grand dogs!
Eleven years ago, I came back to DC West to teach! Middle school has always been my favorite! My husband, Darren and I have been married for 31 years. We have two Shetland Sheepdogs that are both 4 years old - Husker and Tucker. One of our favorite things to do is to take school groups to Washington DC. We have now taken 14 groups of kids from Waterloo and DC West.
In addition to teaching science, I have spent a lot of time working on state science assessments. It has really helped my understand the expectations of Nebraska State Science and I have met some wonderful science teachers from across the state!
Thanks for visiting my website!
